Become a Parish Councillor!

Would you like to join West Hill Parish Council?

Would you like to contribute to the future of West Hill?

West Hill Parish Council is looking for a parish councillor.

We are doing this by a process called co-option. What does that mean? If a councillor leaves, and ten people living in the parish do not request an election to vote for a replacement, the parish council is permitted to seek suitable candidates to fill the position by co-option.

We are looking for enthusiastic members of our community with a knowledge of local matters and an interest in improving our village to join us. We aim to be an inclusive and forward-looking council and we hope that our council will reflect the different sections of our community.

West Hill Parish Council was formed on 1st April 2017 following a review of local governance. It has 7 councillors, including a Chairman, and a parish clerk. The council meets at least once a month on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm, and often has a second meeting on the third Tuesday, depending on the number of things to be discussed. Meetings are held in the village hall, Beech Park, West Hill.

You do not need any formal qualifications to stand as a councillor, but in order to be eligible you need to

  • be at least 18 years old
  • be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of any member state of the European Union, and
  • meet at least one of the following four qualifications:
    • You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish/community in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards.
